Built well and works!
I am going to be in the minority here and give this a very positive review. I went down the LR4 path initially, but they are maintenance nightmares. I initially had two, gave one away that stopped working to someone that likes to tinker and fix things. The complaint that this is loud is true, for me it's actually music to my ears! I have a total of 4 automatic litter boxes, 1LR4, three Pet safe automatic litter boxes, this one and two that rake the litter underneath a covered area at one end of the box. The rake speed is slower than the other two, and I could clean it faster manually.....BUT I don't care how long it takes as long as I don't have to clean it. I use crystal litter (my preference) and occasionally the litter needs stirred to redistribute the crystals evenly. Once the rake mechanism stopped working but I just gave it a cleaning with attention to the grooves the rake fits into and it was fine. The removable receptacle works great, I don't use any bags just empty, wipe down and replace. It's taken a long time for my cats to get use to the LR4, but with these Petsafe automatic litter boxes they adapted to them easily (probably because they um look like a regular litter box). I think this is built well, it is rather low tech (it doesn't have a counter to let you know how often it's being used or an app).

If you cat is a corner pee-er, DO NOT buy this item
If you own a cat, you know they are bratty, demanding, intolerable overlords whose very particular tastes must be met 100%... or else they plot your demise... usually in the form of defecating where they are not supposed to. And yet, here we are, with four of them. One of our feline overlords finds the litter robots distasteful and will not use them (we have the 3 and 4). To try to please his lordship, we purchased a popur 5 as well (since it is a lot like regular boxes), but his lordship refused to use that one either... Apparently, consistently clean litter boxes in circular and squared shapes aren't at his level.... so we bought a fourth self-cleaning box: This one, the petsafe self cleaning box, to see if that would please him.He was deeply offended. As soon as we installed that one, his lordship was so crossed by our lame attempt to meet his demands that he started pooping on the floor. But it gets better, because one of the other overlords LOVES this box, so much so, that he has stopped using the other ones to use this one.So, aside from the offended overlord pooping on the floor, what (you may ask) is the darn problem with this litter box? Well... Let me list it out for you:1. ALL FOUR of our feline overlords are corner pee-ers. ALL OF THEM!! That isn't an issue for most boxes, but this particular littler box isn't one full piece. The litter receptacle is a separate piece from the frame you see from the outside (which controls the self-cleaning arm). You have to place the motorized frame over the litter box receptacle, which sits right below the motorized frame, forming a tight connection (though not a seal). The problem is that if your cat is a corner pee-er, that pee may fall right on that connection between the frame and litter receptacle, causing pee to sip through the narrow, none-sealed gap between the two and spread all over the floor. If the overlords like to pee on the corner where the waste box also sits, then that pee will also sip into the waste box. You can see the real-life result of this situation in the included picture, where the royal pee lake on the floor is VERY noticeable. If your feline overlord likes to corner-pee as much as ours do, I do NOT recommend you use this box.2. There is no good space to put a plastic bag in the waste box so, you either have to not use a bag (not an option if you don't want to have to constantly clean the waste box), or, put one on but the result isn't going to be a handsome one (as you can see in the front of the picture where the waste box is located).3. The scooping arm kind of sucks. Actually, it sucks a lot. It seems to be great at scooping dirty litter when it is returning from the scooping cycle, leaving clumped litter BEHIND the arm, where it accumulates and never again makes it to the front to be scooped into the waste box (you can see that in the picture too, the back left corner).4. When the arm scoops into the waste box, it also scoops in clean litter, so the waste box fills up faster and a lot of it is just wasted litter. To solve for this, basically, don't go above the first litter line marked in the litter box. I mean it. I placed the litter right in between the two lines (as recommended by pet safe) and it continuously scooped clean litter into the scooping box. Of course, not putting more litter in means you'll have to put clean litter into the box basically all the time, it might exacerbate the issue I named on point 3, above, and it means you'll be in this cycle of putting in clean litter that ends scooped into the waste box.5. The motor is loud, so if you keep the box in a family space, you'll have to hear that all the time... and clean up all the pee that gets on your floors.Given all the issues, I honestly can't find any redeeming qualities, except for the fact that 3 of the 4 feline overlords took to using it right away.... Though, as mentioned before, the 4th overlord was very offended by its presence. So, we are retuning this one. I guess the all self-cleaning life isn't for us since the one overlord disapproves. We'll keep working on our diplomacy skills to get him to compromise, but, in the meantime, petsafe needs to get their act together and better the quality of this product, especially considering how RIDICULOUSLY expensive it is, compared to how bad it performs (like the litter robot's price is outrageous... but you def get quality self-cleaning results). If I could, I'd give it a rating of 0.

So far so good!
These are a life changer! I use Fresh Step Multi- Cat and it works well. I bought two, because my older, smaller cat is possessive sometimes, so it’s better for them to just have separate litter boxes. The cons are: 1) One of the rakes is a little off and I had to unscrew the top to access it and set it right. It is still a little bent so it’s pushing against the side of the box. Very annoying. 2) Litter and waste gets stuck on the other side of the rake, so you do have to make sure you pull out the rake and scoop up the waste on the other side sometimes. 3) If you choose to have a lid like me, you have to use a screw driver to shimmy plastic caps out of the grooves to snap the lid in. Very bad design! I had to scratch up one side of one of them to get the plastic filler cap out.Overall, I wish it was cheaper for how many problems they have, but it is still worth the investment! Keeping the bags in the tray make it super simple and easy to clean and empty. It’s cut back on cat smell in my flat significantly. Worth the buy.
