Q: It sounds very short. Is it long enough for ironing trousers?

I'm only 5' tall so I can iron a whole trouser leg without difficulty. Trousers for a taller person would almost certainly need to be ironed upper leg first, then lower leg. Having said that, when I ironed dresses on a larger ironing board, I needed to iron the top first, then the skirt, so it's not really any different.

Q: It sounds heavy, would it be too much for a stud wall even with the correct fittings ?

it is quite heavy, and pulling it out and folding it back in also requires some force...I have installed on a Stud wall, and i had to attach a piece of Pine wood (that you can get from BnQ or Wickes) to two of the vertical stud wall timber frame pieces. I then screwed the ironing board to the Pine wood. has worked well once installed and saves a lot of space.
