Great reimagining

Had been to a Britten Sinfonia concert in Norwich recently and they played this piece, which they also performed at the Proms last year. I really like what Richter has done with the seasons, hope the Sinfonia get to record it some time, but this is a great recording too.

A fascinating take on the seasons

Others have commented on not being able to relate it to Vivaldi's work, but in doing so miss the point that Max makes clear, it inspired him to go deeper. It is in the Summer you really sense they come closer, otherwise it is a delightful journey through the seasons from a modern perspective. Very calming and transports you to an intimate place where nature shows a different voice.

A collaboration across the centuries.

This has taken an albeit brilliant work that has become tired and played out, and breathed new life into it.It's like a collaboration across the centuries.Critics seem to have been divided. Gramophone were predictably sniffy about it. Radio 3 and The Guardian loved it. For me, it's a thing of beauty. Enjoy..

Wonderfully reflective adaptation.

Max Richter's interpretation of the very famous (and unfortunately over performed) Four Seasons breathes new life into this great work. Very effective and meaningful.

New season

I like it but the sudden endings of some tracks are disappointing. I could listen to Spring 1 (track 2) over and over

Better than his later version.

I bought "The New Four Seasons Vivaldi Recomposed" a few weeks ago, I wasn't over impressed. I thought I'd better try his original attempt, I think it's marginally better. To use a Paul Daniels phrase - "You'll like this... not a lot, but you'll like it!".The violin sound is rather harsh, too much presence, sounds more like an electronic instrument than a Guarneri. The start of track 9 (Autumn 2) I thought was my electronic doorbell gone AWOL!! A bit like the signal before an airport or railway station announcement! As for "Electronic Soundscapes" - I've played with a Moog Synth, anybody can make "weird" sounds with one. I don't think his are much better than mine were!!
