A tank of a knife
This is one beautiful tank of a knife. It feels a little heavy but it’s perfectly balanced.Came hair splitting sharp right out of the box. It’s everything you’d expect from ESEE!

Quality
Esse has always been a great company. I’ve never had any issues with their products. The blades are always thick and have great quality finishes. I’ve had this knife for a few months now and have had 0 issues with it while camping/using it outdoors. For the money, you can not beat the quality. I recommend this knife to anyone who loves a good bang for their buck

Solid survival knife!
This is a very stout, strong survival knife!Think 1/4 inch thick with a fill tang, built like a tank and sharp out of the box!3D scales are very grippy. Palm swell will fill your hand. Much better than the ESEE 4.This knife compares favorably to the Becker BK-2.Being so thick it is heavier than some folks will like.

To me, this is the pinnacle of a "single best" *Survival* knife.
I ended up pulling the trigger on this beauty because I have (and love) the RAT-7 from OKC. That knife is very similar in its shape and purpose, save for being 7" long and having flat handle scales. It is much less expensive ($70-80 range) and might be a good place to start if you are considering this knife but want to see if this general type of knife is useful for you.I loved my RAT-7, but it was just too long to mount on/near my chest area. The flat-ish handle scales of the RAT-7 are fine for me, but I generally don't have the patience to do a bow-drill fire so the utility of the little bow-drill divot is lost on me.I generally find that above 6" I am unlikely to use the knife to its full potential, and below 4" I feel like I ought to have brought a bigger knife. Thus, ~5" is what I consider the Goldilocks length that is "just right" for an outdoor fixed blade. Conveniently enough, 5" is also a convenient size for mounting on plate carriers, chest rigs, etc. so that you're not forced to carry the blade on your belt. (There's nothing wrong with belt/thigh carry, but depending on your activity it can get in the way a bit, move weight distribution off-center, etc.)I must say I am pleased with this knife. The 3D Micarta handle is super comfy, the blade is ultra-durable and will survive whatever beating you can dish out. It is currently my pick for best all-round survival knife. If I had to levy a criticism, it would be that this knife is too thick and heavy. It will not please the gods of ultralight backpacking, ever. But for the intended use of this knife, the thickness and extra steel is necessary. So I suppose I'll be cutting weight in my kit elsewhere.

Solid!
Solid knife for sure! Probably went a little overboard getting this. I guess I don’t really need this on a weekly basis…but when I do, look out…
