Raiders of the Lost Ark (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The Best of the Four Indiana Jones Soundtracks
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK was the first and best of the movies and soundtracks. As a bonus the remastered CD version includes a few additional tracks. Yes, as others have pointed out, there are some musical cues missing, but this CD is a hopeful beginning. You can't have everything.I went to see RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK three times when it appeared in theaters in the Summer of 1981. Shortly thereafter I purchased the audio cassette soundtrack. Mind you, this was at a time when my third hand car still had an installed eight track player. I spliced in a cassette jack into the wiring so that I could play store bought and home recorded tapes. Unfortunately my RAIDERS cassette only lasted about two months before the cassette pressure plate buffer fell off. I was able to swap the tape housings with another cassette, but the soundtrack was never quite right aftter that. At some point the orginal soundtrack disappeared from music store shelves and catalogs and was only available in a version performed by an Eastern European symphony orchestra.I held off buying the re-released soundtrack until I happened to watch the better part of an INDIANA JONES marathon on one of the cable channels. That did it for me. I picked up my smart phone and ordered the iconic 1980's soundtrack. I am glad I did. While playing the RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK CD on the the long commute to work my memories harkened back to 1981 and the fond memories associated with seeing the film in a real theater. Let me define REAL: A bonafide real theater is a cinema that can seat more than 150 people and is not one of those grand movie houses converted into multiple shoebox auditoriums. Back in the early Eighties my old Datsun had worn seats, no air-conditioning, a windshield that leaked water when it rained and relentless rust around the wheel well. Blasting soundtracks such as RAIDERS on the car's speakers had the effect of putting all of the car's shortcomings aside. John Williams is a master of his craft.Shortly after playing the CD a few times, and knowing by heart the scenes associated with the tracks, I was compelled to load the DVD version of the film and play it with the surround sound turned up on high. There is nothing like playing a great movie soundtrack. Even better now that I now drive a car with air-conditioning, without a leaky windshield, comfortable seats and rust nowhere to be seen. Does life get any better?

The John Williams Classic on CD. A must for my collection!
I just love this as inspirational or mood music. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones is my favorite and I love this classic John Williams score. It’s just magical and I hope you get a chance to hear it again soon or for first time.

Exactly what I was looking for original 1981- thank you Boneyard junction (seller)
This was an original 1981 vinyl in great condition. Boneyard junction was the seller and had many great titles to choose from. The condition of the jacket and vinyl truly matched the description. Packaging was right for a vinyl record and it arrived ahead of time. Thank you boneyard junction, this was the easiest online purchase of a record I have made yet and will be purchasing again just from this experience.

Who Doesn't Love John Williams?
What can I really say about this CD?If you like John Williams or Indiana Jones, my guess is that you might have already purchased this CD.Honestly, the musical score from this CD (which is Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) is one of the defining reasons I like the film so much. John Williams just has a way with music that is not only enjoyable to listen to, but enjoyable to play as part of an orchestra. He does an excellent job of equalizing parts of excitement and drama with fun and emotion. And the soundtrack flows very nicely together, as a musical score for a film should. It's really a shame that more musical scores for film aren't up to this caliber as I really believe it can make or break a film. The only reason this receives 4 out of 5 stars as opposed to 5 stars is because I honestly think the soundtracks from Temple of Doom and Last Crusade are better. It feels like he developed more as a musical director/composer in the time between films (and he probably did).

Raiders of the Lost Ark music score
This is some of John Williams best work. It still sounds good. Williams composed music for B movies, 1960's TV shows, Valley of the Dolls(1967), Black Sunday(1977), Superman(1978), and 1970's disaster movies. Working on George Lucas and Steven Spielberg films made him more well known. Some people claim that Williams' music after 2000 got worse. The music score for Raiders of the Lost Ark is a classic. It's still catchy and energetic decades later. Stock music from this score was used in the Turkish Star Wars rip off The Man Who Saves the World(1984). You can hear the Indiana Jones theme as Bart runs to the school bus on The Simpsons. The Indiana Jones theme music is made up from two different melodies that Spielberg liked. There were some Indiana Jones clones in the 1980's such as King Solomon's Mines(1985) and Romancing the Stone(1984).The Jet Li movie Dr. Wai and the Scripture With No Words(1996) felt like an Indiana Jones movie. John Willams' Indiana Jones music is an important part of pop culture.

Fantastic re-release!
The classic by the incomparable John Williams. What is there to say? This release/remaster sounds amazing, and there are details and subtleties in it that I've never heard in my many, many listenings of both the original LP, and the expanded CD editions. The cover is oddly darker than the original- for some reason, they wanted it more contrasty. Inside, the gatefold has some beautiful images from the film. Also, the records are nice and THICK. Much sturdier than the originals. If you're an Indy fan, or a fan of great music scores, grab this. You won't regret it.

Come on.... It's John Williams!
John Williams is the master of movie scoring. No one else comes close in marrying the music to the action onscreen. He sets mood and underscores action better than anyone else in the world.Scoring such amazing films as STAR WARS and SUPERMAN doesn't hurt either, but he is the master at it. I don't think there is a remotely close second. This soundtrack is slightly retro but iconic and masterfully executed. Just listening to it evokes the entire film, almost start to finish. And the music is amazing to absorb all on its own.

Seis estrellas
