LaCie iamakey v2 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (131104)

I have been wanting a nice, sturdy flash drive for a while now. I have gone through three Sandisk Cruzer drives, one being the titanium, and all of them broke on me. I work with computers all the time, at work and at home, and I am always needing to move files around. With this being the case, I prefer to carry my flash drive on my key chain. That is where this drive stands out. It is light, very durable, and scratch resistant. All of the other drives I have had came with a loop, or hole for a key ring. This worked good for a while, but they all broke. This Lacie drive seems as if it will never break, unless you are just trying to break it. The keyring hole is molded into the frame of the drive, and it is extremely sturdy. The drive comes with a small clear plastic tip protector that slips over the gold tip connectors. I like this feature, and it seems to fit on very snug. I read a lot of reviews for the 1st generation of these drives, and a lot of people said that it was lost very easily. I don't see that being the case with this new 2nd generation. Another feature is the data encryption. You can specify however much space you want on the drive to be encrypted. This will make a Private folder and encrypt all of the data that you put in it, and protect it with a password. This is a very nice feature. This is also the thinnest drive I have ever seen. The connector on the tip is very thin, and made different than most drives you see. This one will not completely surround the usb connector on the computer/device you are hooking it to, but rather it slips in right against the connector. This is how come the drive can be so much thinner. The only gripe that I have found with it is that there is no read/write light on the drive to let you know when it is working. This is not enough of a problem for me to take the rating down to one star, because I believe you should always eject your drives either way, so this shouldn't be a major factor. I think I have finally found a flash drive that will keep up with my pace. Thanks Lacie for a fine product. I will update this review at a later date if I have any problems.**One Month Update**I have had this little jump drive for over a month now and I have definitely put it to the test. I have successfully transferred over 7GB worth of data to and from this little guy, from mac to pc, and I have to say it has performed wonderfully. I haven't had any trouble at all from the drive. I do have to say though, that I finally did lose the little plastic cover that goes over the tip. The body of the drive is getting a little scratched, though this was to be expected because it is on a key ring with about 7 other keys. The connector tips that attach to the computer though have not one scratch and still look great. I am very pleased so far.**Six Month Update**Well, going on almost seven months now this drive is still going strong. I literally use this thing every day and I have it atleast half full at all times. The drive has been on my key ring since day one, and while the body is scratched (though not as bad as you would think) the contacts still look great and do not have any scratches at all. I highly recommend this drive to anybody.**One Year Update**Well, I've had this drive for a year now, and all I can say is what I've been saying the whole time. It still functions perfectly, and is still securely attached to my key ring. I also have to add that the drive still looks remarkably well for having been stored on a key ring for an entire year. Purchase this Flash Drive!**Two Year Update** (Almost)I was on here responding to a post so I thought i'd go ahead an update again. It's been almost two years now and this drive is still going strong. It's been on my key ring since the day I got it and has been used almost every day since. I couldn't recommend this drive enough. I use it almost everyday and will hopefully get another two years out of it.**Three Year Update**It is now February of 2014 and I had to jump on to say that my iamakey flash drive is still working fine. I've still had it on my keychain the whole time and have had zero issues. Please get this if you want a flash drive that will last. Five stars all the way!

[Summary]This flash drive is quality item. It's beautifully designed, and feels like it will never break. In terms of functionality, it has a great transfer speed (I got 10MB/s write speed). If you are in search of a flash drive, and have money to spare, I recommend this product.[Opening/Setup]The flash drive came in a clamshell, but because it is so thin, I was able to simply slide it out of the packaging, after cutting a small gap. It also comes with a small transparent plastic cap to protect the device. The device was quickly recognized on both Windows and Mac machines, and works without a flaw.[Experience]As I previously stated, this is a premium product. The stainless steel feels great in your hands. Every time I lend it to someone, they comment about how nice it is. Despite the unique design of the plug (which I had some doubts about), it is very easy to connect to a computer.There are a couple details to take note of. First, the plastic cap that came with the flash drive is practically useless. It is very hard to put it on the flash drive, and after doing so a few times, it cracked. I've since thrown it away, and the flash drive functions fine without it.On USB ports that are close together, the handle/head of the key blocks access to adjacent ports. However, this is not so much of a flaw as a design. There would be no way to solve this problem, without changing the key-like shape of the flash drive. As such, this is nothing more than something to keep in mind.That being said, I keep this flash drive on my key ring at all times. When I need a flash drive, it is always there for me. When not in use, it blends in like a normal key. The durability and usability make this a versatile product. This key has been on my keychain since I got it. It has stood up against drops and scratches like a champ with little to no scratches or scuff marks. On to the reliability and usage; this key drive is very handy it goes on your keychain so you will always have it around. It has had no problems so far in opening. The transfer rate is pretty fast for what I use it for (small java files and documents in office programs). Everything about this key is worth a few extra bucks. The design the space and the speed, even the private space preloaded software is nice it keeps rather personal non-work related files under lock.Great drive!Pros:Design - perfect size just like a keyPortability - goes everywhere with meDurability - I have 0 scratches after countless "accidental drops" only fingerprints showSpeed - file transfers are sublime with this drive if you are a normal business personCons:Space - for the price I think a little more space could be addedThe plastic cap - it is sturdy but will fall off occasionally but not to much of a hassleFinal word: get this key drive you won't regret it. I wanted a secure USB drive to include with my key chain. I thought this would be perfect because it was metal and would blend in with my other keys. However, unlike the product description, the protective cap was not included. Because of this, I cannot add this to my key chain because the USB contacts would likely be trashed inside a week.Pros: Works well (so far), and had sturdy construction.Cons: Unless the protective cap is included, having a USB drive that looks like a key is useless.

Je cherchai une clé USB que je puisse emmener partout et disposer à chaque instant: quel meilleur endroit que de la glisser sur mon trousseau de clés standards !Non seulement elle est belle et se fond sans problème avec mes autres clés (sans mémoire), mais en plus elle est solide. Sa finition est parfaite et semble faite pour durer.Ces taux de transferts dans très bon.Un bémol: le logiciel fourni pour permettre le cryptage de tout ou partie de celle-ci n'est pas très au point et à nécessiter de ma part un appel au support, qui a été très réactif et efficace.En conclusion: il s'agit d'un bel objet, pratique, design et original qui ne manque pas de susciter les regards de vos interlocuteurs lorsque vous la glisser dans une fente USB.

Ever so handy to have this iamakey on my set of keys at work, any important documents i need to move from my house pc to my work pc in a flash. easy to use, very fast and no problems! great to have in your pocket or key set!

Great novelty, not very sturdy though.

It works! I've had it for 6 months now on a fairly large bunch of keys and it's still working great and is quick to transfer files to/from too. Haven't had any problems to report so can only recommend.
