This LG 40” smart TV is an impressive piece of kit
.Rating: 4.5Our 9-year-old Samsung 32" 720p/1080i flat screen just died on us last week, so buying this LG TV is major step on the evolutionary pathway. The LG 40” TV is impressive piece of kit being a 4k LED Smart TV. Connecting to our NAS (Synology Diskstation) is wonderful and makes it a breeze for watching films, with 1080p films upscaling looking good too. Apart from setting up the inbuilt tuner, we have also connected our Sky plus, where standard SD Sky TV looks good, the resulting Sky HD looks very good and PS3 works well. The Web OS is relatively easy to navigate, although unlike other reviewers we found it was not as easy to work with initially, otherwise the set up was OK – the main thing to bear in mind, is to allow the TV’s in-built tuner to download digital terrestrial TV, otherwise the setup process does not complete well.If you are going to wall mount this unit, best to do some research for the best bracket. In our case we bought a universal mount, which unfortunately – leaves the brackets arms peaking over the top of the unit, which looks odd at best. We needed to pad-out the top-grips with cardboard, as a quick fix –which is not recommended. With hind sight all of this could have been avoided. Our thoughts on the supplied Magic Remote 2015:The design is ergonomic and sits well in the hand and the function on each button/ symbols are well laid out & having only a few buttons you soon learn what they are – really how often do you actually read the, manual, on your remote? It is not one of those “busy” remotes where there are tons of input buttons. That said it was a slight learning curve to get used to the remote, other reviews I have read said it was a “breeze” to use straight from the box. As a family we found it works a dream with no real issues. It Make using Web OS so much easier and navigating web pages. If you're not sure whether it will work on your model just log onto the LG site and put in your model number. It is essential, piece of kit, for some games on the smart TV, and You can just point and click at the screen to select & navigate, it is great for entering text on the keyboard scroll wheel is pretty neat too. All in all a go remote that does its job well.In summation:We are more than happy with the sound quality, although when budget allows we will probably install a sound bar.All round very pleased with all its features and of course, the main thing you watch it for - the picture quality which is very good..

so doesnt allow me access to my EE box or Smart programmes. I have contacted the manufacturer's customer service ...
I am having problems with this TV. At start up the screen splits in half - the right side is black, the left side covered by a grey film. After a few seconds I get a full screen picture, but the left side still has the grey film. The magic remote only operates on startup and shutdown, so doesntallow me access to my EE box or Smart programmes. I have contacted the manufacturer's customer service who gave me a list of things to try,but since the magic remote doesn't work I cant access settings etc. also I couldnt reply to them by email. I rang them and spoke to another customer service person who told me since the TV was seven weeks out or warranty they had been told by head office that they were unable to help. I have spoken to a TV repair company who after hearing of the problem told me it was 99% certain the screen was faulty and would cost as much as buying a new TV. Whilst I appreciate it is out of warranty, I would expect a £549 tv to last much longer than this one.Can you please help. Many thanksJ.Smith

Good mid range smart tv
As smart tv's go, this is a good mid range tv. Its easy to use and has some good apps on it. I bought the one with the magic remote control and this seems to be the better option. I liked the fact that I can browse the internet if I wanted to and also have apps like Netflix, Amazon Movies, Plex etc on it. Works well using wi-fi althoughNetflix has had to be reset a few times and I don't know why. I also bought a sounder separately and that works well using the optical input / output jack. The picture quality is great and I find that HD works well too. The controls are easy to master. There is a set of icons that you use along the bottom of the screen and you select the app you wish to use. The pointer on the magic remote is easy to sync by moving it to the edge of the screen and pushing it towards the centre. You need to try it as its hard to explain. Overall this is a

Brilliant TV, stunning picture.
I have been buying LG smart Tvs for ages now and prefer them over the more common Samsung by a mile. Easy to use and beautiful picture. Sound as always is pretty rubbish, but if you are going to buy a TV of this quality, you need to buy an equally high end sound bar or external speaker of some kind. The Smart features on this are different than my other Lg's. The user interface is a bit awkward, but I am getting the hang of it. I also bought the Magic Remote as you really do need a cursor for ease of use. Chuck the batteries it comes with as they are useless. This remote is much better that previous ones I have.https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00Y2NXVZ2/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_20

Superb User Experience
Superb product, excellent sharp picture quality and the WebOS-based TV interface is very simple and intuitive especially the setup which my 60 year old mother was able to do without any effort. Assembling the TV stand was quick, easy and uncomplicated. One of the most interesting features was the smart remote-control which makes pointing and clicking on the screen a doddle. The remote also has a thumb-wheel which can be used to scroll up and down channels. The apps supported are all what would be expected, the Amazon Prime Video app in particular is good enough to not necessitate the need for my Fire TV Stick now although it doesn't support playing games.A downside is that compared to the Samsung TV it replaced is that you can't view one TV station and watch another at the same time. But apart from that a great choice.
