Texas Instruments TI-30XS MultiView: The Perfect Balance of Power and Simplicity

As someone who uses calculators daily for both work and academic purposes, I can confidently say the TI-30XS MultiView is one of the best scientific calculators available in this price range. The standout feature is definitely the 4-line display that allows you to see multiple calculations at once. This has saved me countless mistakes by being able to visually confirm my work before moving forward. The ability to scroll through previous calculations is incredibly useful when working through complex problems or when you need to check your work. The math print mode is a game-changer - seeing fractions, exponents, and square roots displayed exactly as they would appear in a textbook makes complex calculations much more intuitive. The toggle feature between fraction and decimal forms is particularly helpful when precise answers are needed. For students, this calculator hits the sweet spot between functionality and allowed features for standardized tests. It's approved for most major exams including the SAT, ACT, and AP tests, which means you can use the same calculator for classwork and test day.Battery life is excellent - I've been using mine regularly for months without needing a replacement. The build quality is solid and durable with good key response. At just under $20, it offers tremendous value compared to graphing calculators that cost 5-6 times as much but aren't necessary for many courses. The only minor drawback is the learning curve if you're coming from a basic calculator, but the included quick reference guide helps tremendously, and after a few days of use, the button layout becomes second nature.Whether you're a student, teacher, or professional who needs reliable scientific calculations, the TI-30XS MultiView delivers exceptional performance and usability at an affordable price point. Highly recommended!

I love this calculator

Bought this for trigonometry, but it’s my favorite for use in algebra and geometry as well. I find it really helpful to look up a quick tutorial or introduction video on YouTube so you can really reap the full benefits whether it’s inputting variable values or interchanging between fraction format and decimal format. I also love the interface. It doesn’t look all blocky and clunky like the large TI 84 graphing calculators. It’s very slick and seamless and your input equations are laid out so clearly and so intuitively.I like that it has a case, although I wish that the case covered it a little better but so far does seem durable. The use of green colored font was clever in determining whether using a primary or a secondary function of a button. So far it works well the outputs are quick and prompt and I’m very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend.

A classic for a reason

Classic calculator. I have been using one of these for years and they are just super functional. They never break or fail. Decided it was time for a new one before starting my next degree.

Easy to use.

Math is still insufferable but this works very well.

A capable machine, but there are better calculators at this price point.

This is a good calculator at a good price, BUT you should only buy it if you're required to have this particular model--or if better models are outlawed by your teacher. I will explain that more below:It's dual powered by solar and CR 2032 3V battery, which is nice. I've had mine 5 years and haven't yet had to change the battery. (Changing the battery requires unscrewing the back panel and taking the calculator apart, by the way! While it doesn't have a CAS or graphing capabilities and can't solve systems of equations or evaluate integrals and derivatives, etc.,this is a fairly advanced machine... the data list functions are sophisticated and the multi-view feature is something not often found on calculators at this price point.I use this calculator solely because it is the best calculator approved for actuarial examinations. Outside of the fact that it doesn't have TVM keys like a financial calculator (necessary for 1-2 exams out of the series of 9-10 actuarial exams)... this is, by far, the best calculator that is approved by the SOA.********HOWEVER, if you're looking in this price range and you don't have onerous restrictions on what you're allowed to use, there are calculators at this price point that are definitely superior!*********(1.) For about the exact same price as the TI-30XS MultiView, there is a Casio model (I think it's called ES-115 Plus) that's designed in Japan with way more features, and I think it's easier to use too. It's very direct, with lots of shortcut keys. It manipulates matrices and can transpose and invert and rref to solve linear equations. It also can evaluate derivatives and integrals numerically. Besides graphing, this Casio will do exactly the same things of calculators ten times its cost. It's a FAR superior machine than the MultiView for the same price. Period.(2.) For just $5 more than the MultiView and Casio, you can get the TI-36X Pro. It doesn't have graphing capabilities, but besides graphing, it does just about everything--and more in some cases--than TI's more expensive lineup of calculators (starting at TI 83). The MultiView is maybe good for middle school; whereas, the TI-36X Pro (and the Casio) could reasonably be used throughout high school and college studies and even through graduate mathematics, statistics, and sciences. The 36X Pro isn't as direct or fast as the Casio, but has many menus which can be accessed. You could muck your way through using the TI more than you can with the Casio, imo. There are about 100 stored constants (things like the speed of light, gravitational force, mass of an electron, etc.). There are various built-in probability distributions (binomial, geometric, etc.) It can do unit/dimensional analysis (although entering units is a pain) and it can do conversions too. It's very similar to the Casio I mentioned above. The major differences would be the TI has a lot of menus to access its capabilities and the Casio has shortcut keys. The 36X Pro is also a tad more expensive.

My absolute favorite calculator- my last one lasted 15 years!

This was my absolute favorite calculator as a kid. I got it in elementary school and have used it since, making it my go to for 15 years. Unfortunately its time came and it died on me so I of course ordered a replacement of the same one. It's got all the features I needed (and a few that I don't but that I can see others finding useful) up through calculus 1, its durable in design (survived many an accidental drop), has a manageable weight, and is so intuitive to use. It also doesn't hurt that this comes in my favorite color- blue.

Very good scientific calculator for the price

I had originally bought this for my college math course because it is required to have this particular calculator and it works really great!!! I still have it since August of 2024 and it works just as great!
